FACT: David Tlale is a showman. This known reality always comes in line with his mastery design work and despite arguments that his often well themed productions could possibly distract focus from garments; an undeniable truth is that he is well worth his hype and does not take for granted faithful followers of his work. -Say NO to boring parades, I protest. His recent presentation at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg kept true to the DT brand philosophies. Showcased on the very public staircase of the Gauteng Legislature Piazza, to a soundtrack of clicking old school typewriters his invited guests were treated to quite a display. I, on the other hand, much like a raucous moth to a flame (hey, I get corny too at times), I was drawn to the gold make-up by MAC the most. Extending from regal elements in the fall collection, the foily gold paint was skilfully shaded in abstract forms across models’ faces and knotting in so damn well with the fierce multitude of tailoring skills, matured majestic print works and some very fine-looking textures. The womenswear shapes were designed in classic Tlale fashion; unapologetically regal, complete with near perfect draping and layering. His menswear could appear as a tad too boxy, but one cannot fault “conversation details” abeam all things new and exciting for the SA man of real style.
