Holly smokes!! Just when you think Jacques van der Watt couldn’t possibly out-do his much delightful artistic streaks, he goes and creates one piece that just can’t escape my mind. Seriously, I have been thinking about that skilfully draped silk bolero in an ultramarine shade of blue ever since it crossed the runway at #SAFW’s Sheer Glamour Collections. I have never really thought much for boleros prior then. If anything, I might have even mentioned them as a superfluous invention before. Yet on Thursday the 11th of April, Black Coffee slapped my point of view into consciousness! I love that with this meticulously engineered item of clothing, the fashion house managed to pledge a stunning future using a well referenced past and eliminated every chance of predictability. For me, the voluminous shape corresponded to with an organic approach to design which never fails to explain the label’s visual language. Every tactfully coordinated pleat formed such a fluid contrast to what I would normally deem “strong”. That colour and fabric choice… my goodness, silk in a synthetic ultramarine blue provided an electrifyingly exciting prospect –for fashion’s sake! Yes. I love me some Black Coffee fierceness!!
