I cannot stress the paramount importance of Edu-fashion when you are a practising stylepolitan –see what I did there!? This week saw local fashionistas wagging their feathered headbands (as they do upon newity) about Luminance’s über awesome inclusion of Maison Rabih Kayrouz in their exclusive designer rails and I –not the one too keen to sound uninformed in style conversations, made it a point to research the label and the fella behind it. As you can probably gather, this is major; Mr Kayrouz studied in Paris, France and has been serving some serious fashions for near two decades. He perfected his craft at laudable fashion ateliers, including legendary Chanel and the incomparable Dior. The Lebanese designer’s talent earned him an invitation by the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne to participate in the official calendar of couture fashion shows in 2009. #MAJOR I say. The brand seems to have received some excellent reviews for the undeniably precise and structural cuts and I totally get it, if their Spring-Summer 2013 collection is anything to go by. Currently available at Luminance to extend their exclusive global presence, this ready-to-wear range is fluid to fit business and some grown up playtime. Imagine Jane Fonda and Felicia Mabuza-Suttle’s and timeless elegance that could be easily styled to suit Nicole Richie’s and Terry Pheto stunning fashion choices too. Yes, that supreme level of chic. “This is a collection of light chiffon dresses blended with cotton business wear. The garments have a desert-inspired colour palate of off-whites, sandy browns and taupes punctuated by saffrons and different shades of navy. It is a collection that speaks to the hues of summer in the city.” I am definitely Maison Rabih Kayrouz’s newest fan.
