SUMMONING AMANDA LAIRD CHERRY’S LIEWE HEKSIE HAT!

AMANDA LAIRD CHERRY SPRING-SUMMER 2013 SOUTH AFTICAN FASHION WEEK MJ AND STUFF

I recently TWEETED that I am about to give up on the sad idea to always attempt to colour my own hair –it NEVER comes out alright. Thankfully I happen to love, collect and wear a lot of hats. No, really, too many hats if ask me and it’s not even an obsessive thing. I have reasoned before that I buy all of my hats for practical reasons, even though I probably own many of a similar kind; they all serve a unique purpose.  Never the one to sit still post convincing conversations with self, I have decided my current items of desire for the season must include Amanda Laird Cherry’s piece of millinery art. Perfect, as this felt number was shown alongside the designer’s dreamy spring-summer 2013 collection at #SAFW titled Groendakkies. Something about the angular, yet floppy brims reminded me of Liewe Heksie, one of the most awesome comic strip figures from my childhood. I also love that even though the hat tied in very well with the collection’s mission to emancipate the mind’s intricacies and wonders, it remained a strong fashion contender and can be styled in so many ways. I don’t know if these were created just for the show, but I have tried to bribe a few friends into “surprising” me with a giant box sans much success. They all just don’t seem to get the fact that this hat is EVERYTHING!!!
