In case you haven’t noticed, the exceptionally talented, designer duo Malcom Klûk and his partner Christiaan Gabriel du Toit of the eponymous label Klük CGdT are not on the showcase line-up for this year’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Jo’burg.
My heart is bled all sorts of technicolor cocktail when I realised this because whenever these two present a collection, parts of me exhilarate fiercely. They [always] bring IT and they [always] Bring IT really hard… like, all the time.
I have however found comfort in thinking that they are probably hurdled in and working towards a return to the runway like no other. This consolation settled a few days ago when I went to experience Bongi Mvuyana’s performance at the opening of YSWARA’s luxe store in Parkhurst.
During the mightily gifted songress’ vigorous live performance, I noticed that Bongi wore remarkable outfits from the designer house’s coveted archives. My excitement shot sky high as the new artist looked every bit like the Mega-Star she is clearly destined to be.
For her first performance when opening the show, the darling Bongi wore a floor length lilywhite silk dress with lace appliqué cascading off one shoulder –I later learnt that it was initially created as a bridal gown, but because of its stylish functionality, one could not tell. Her second outfit change for the meet and greet session was a jewel-toned sea green number with an unassuming high-low hemline worn with tasselled royal blue earrings and matching pointy toe pumps. The final gear-up for the mini concert fitted the occasion beautifully. At this point she wore a pearl toned sleeveless ball gown with a generously bubbled hemline at a tea-length. The dress had a mini trail and looked fab-tastic worn with a contrasting Pichulik neckpiece.
