I am one of the many people who broke into passionate fits of wolf-like whistles and pitchy ululates when Laduma Ngxokolo showcased yet another beautiful collection at this year’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Jo’burg. Having been a great follower of his Maxhosa brand for a while, I do believe it is safe to declare that his talent ranks among the finest in the world and his lustrous accolades are a definite proof of this sentiment. Pioneering some of the finest knitwear designs, his star continues to beam brightest beyond our shores. The estimable designer is currently in the Netherlands’ Amsterdam for this year’s What Design Can Do conference #WDCD2014 where he will join an impressive list of highly influential speakers across different creative fields, “with a vision to create a platform that engaged designers in discussing the role design plays in the social impacting of communities across the globe. Bent on being agents of social renewal, the two-day conference encourages designers to take responsibility and consider how their work impacts the wider society. This year’s themes are: What Design Can Do for Learning, Nature, Economy, and Stories.”
The convention commenced today and will continue to wrap tomorrow. For more information, do check out WDCD2014.
