I have never really kept it a secret that the only way to get me to do just about anything involves suspending a SALE sign all over my radar. I swear, I get into gatherer mode and spontaneously collect pieces for myself and those I love dearly. Designer extraordinaire Gert-Johan Coetzee’s closet sale mission comes fresh into the new month (and season) and will definitely see me beaming with all sorts of excitement.
This has to be among the supreme fashion highlights of the year, not only because the two-day experience will be Gert-Johan’s first sale like, ever, attendees will get an opportunity to purchase garments as seen showcased across runways over the last couple of seasons and some of the iconic one-of-a-kind gems previously spotted on glamorous celebrities. “Every dress there will be one of a kind, and really represent my life’s work so far. I can’t wait to spread the love,” says Coetzee.
Part of the proceeds will be donated to a charity supported by the talented designer because in true GJC spirit, many of the dresses for sale are part of collections Coetzee designed to raise awareness for societal issues such as breast cancer, violence against women and discrimination against people with albinism.
The sale is open to the public and takes place on Saturday and Sunday morning, 6 and 7 September 2014, from 10am to 1pm, at The Maslow Hotel, cnr Grayston Drive and Rivonia Road, Sandton.
