Today is all about sending a #ShoutOut to the still fresh Dermalogica concept store right inside the recently refurbished Mall of Rosebank. Open for a few weeks now, the retail space also functions as an overall Skin Care Centre which in simple terms means that upon setting an appointment to consult with an expert therapist, one can be guaranteed thorough and tailor-made on-the-spot solutions to better comprehend individualistic skincare needs. Some of my friends have been recommending Dermalogica products for quite a while now and even though I have probably said many-a-time that I will look into it, well, I never really quite got to it for reasons unknown to mankind. However, the convenience of the central spot coupled with the awe-inspiring Face Mapping® with a microzone® treatment has me bubbling with all shades of enthusiasm. And from what I gather, following an expert analysis of my skin, a 20 minute zone-specific treatment will be designed to target part of my face in dire need of attention. I am beyond keen to try it out. I’m going in y’all.
Y’all might as well go on and refer to this as PUMA Week all over the #MJandSTUFF HQ. My fam keeps escalating their awesomeness even after a successful PUMA x Brazil line throughout the World Cup. I am dedicating this week, well what’s left of it to include daily posts about the rad activities and product to hit the streets soonest. First up; the main reason to why people close to me must have been exposed to brusque gasps and untimed air-punches alongside many erratic performances from yours truly: The most recent collaborative effort between PUMA and the fab-tastic Fashion House of Alexandra McQueen. The PUMA x McQ Autumn-Winter W 2014 collection to be exact.
Back-flips were spun (by me of course) when news of the contemporary brand that is McQ and my hommies at PUMA came out because when two great labels come together, thrills of epic proportions are bound to happen. You might have seen my fervent hint all over my facebook page a few weeks ago. True to form, the AW14 collection embodies the unmatched rebellious spirit known to best be represented by McQ and PUMA’s progressive and design-led ethos which have been nothing short of incredible for over 65 years.
The collection combines Burton’s gothic fashion styling with PUMA’s use of sports performance-inspired constructions – traditional athletic shoes are transformed by designs influenced by human anatomy, with ribcages and tendons creating cage-like styling on iconic sports trainers.
I am crushing all over the collection for a couple reasons. One: all of it is insanely AH-MAZING! Two: for proving that more often than not, intelligent collaborations need not compromise on reputable aesthetics in order to come up with designs that will go down in history. Three: I have been losing sleep over the McQ Run Mid sneaker, which is originally an athletic shoe given additional structure with heavy use of PUMA’s moulded TPU, laid over premium mesh and nubuck to create a rib-cage effect.
Do check out http://www.pumaselect.co.za to keep up to date with the landing of these kicks to a store near you.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but my posts have been a few and apart of now late, coupled with busyness I had committed myself to, all for a stylish shift you will notice a little later *winks*. The painful bit was the unceremonious inability to share with you all the wonderful thoughts and ideas I have had, ramming into my system throughout the last three weeks. A fan of the blog also sent in mail and howled about a rigorous “famine of fashion” I have put her under. This post is just a twinkle of what has been on my radar…
Just this past Sunday, I honoured an invitation to join the well-heeled and attended this year’s Land Rover Africa Cup Finals at the 80-year-old Inanda Club. I told y’all I am expanding an appreciation for sport. In addition to feeding my curiosity for equestrian vibes at a prestige level, I got all fuzzy and stuff on the inside after witnessing that there was a theme –everybody who know me, know here I stand when thumped with a theme-. The invitation summoned A Touch of Gold and having spent a great deal of this winter with my fashion eyes fixed on all things OPULENT, this was to be a festive fair of fabulousness.
Well, I kind of went with several strokes of gold –as you can probably tell in these pics -the shoes, the belt and the braiding on the bolero. I suppose I had to bring it from interesting and dissimilar bends, you know, for all those cheerless individuals who just can’t seem to execute a theme so precisely requested.
I’m into sports, can you tell? Jokes and stuff aside, I think it might have something to do with the current sporty mood around the World Cup or just my fidgety nature of liking things. As testimony to my newest ardour for sporty things, I went out to Pretoria last weekend for some live courtside action through a celeb studded netball match -all for a good cause.
The semi-professional league that is this year’s newly introduced Brutal Fruit Netball Cup had reached its finals and an interesting element to wrap its success included a challenge with local celebrities paired in teams alongside some truly talented professionals from the National All Star Netball to lend support and help raise funds to benefit POWA (People Against Woman Abuse). These celebs where divided into two teams with Lalla Hirayama, Zizo Beda, Pearl Modiadie, Eda Rose and Pearl Thusi holding it down for the #LavasciousLemons whilst Jenna Dover, Dineo Moeketsi, Khanya Mkhangisa, Luthando Shosha and Lerato Kganyago were on the opposing team the #CheekyCranberries.
The match was both fun and funny –I had almost forgotten how I too can get gripped into things, almost like a pageant dad who just won’t stop scream-coaching from the grandstands. #LavaciousLemons won with 8 points over #CheekyCranberries’ well contended final score of 4 goals/ dunks/ sinks. If this game was anything to go by, I am super excited for the next five years of these awesome partnerships: major shout out to Brutal Fruit, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, Netball South Africa and of course DNA Brand Architects for such an awesome hookup and a reminder that I am totally into sports too.
Something really gorgeous here looms. The dearly gifted fresh kid on the music block; Lorde has recently agreed on a connection that could potentially hint hype as great as her bigger-than-big debut album. This undeniable Pure Heroine has been named as the next artiste to collaborate with MAC for a limited edition product range.
“I was really excited to work with them [MAC] on these products, which I use pretty much every day and night…” The collection will only be available here in SA in the coming winter and since Lorde is a noble of the dark lip, I think we could forward to some delightfully eye-catching stuff throughout the cooler months. You may or may not know that Amber D –MAC’s Senior Artist has a longstanding relationship as Lorde’s make-up artist and she has designed the singer’s looks for her current US tour (see the pic below) as well as the famed 2014 Grammy Awards and Brit Awards.
I am crazy excited to see the whole collection when it launches and y’all know I blog about it…x

Back at it once again, this week I am looking at more of the established designers who showcased at the Durban Fashion Fair 2013. I mentioned in the previous DFF piece that these posts are not so much about uncovering trends as they are about me trying to relive moments of erect eyebrows, silent “oohs” and “aahs” which came equal to winks. I had seen most of these collection prior the successful fair, so this was really about identifying pieces and details after my fashioning heart. These are a few of them.
They say you should never meet your icon and I say smack that, what if my icon happens to be a giant Chanel Hula Hoop bag in all its quilted white lamb skin leather, clasped with the legendary fashion house’s double C logo and attached to two black hula hoop pipe-like handles, circling a perfect 360 around my shoulderline and mid-thigh area!? I remember falling in lust with this massive bag the minute the interwebs went wicked wild right after The Kaiser sent it marching down the runway, creating history and almost dwarfing a model at last year’s Spring-Summer collections in Paris. This IT BAG has since had a good run around fashion and social circles respectively ever since Marie Claire US’s Accessories Director; Kyle Anderson debuted its real life existence in Feb this year at NYFW. It’s not every day when one gets to come in contact with their icon, so if an opportunity appears flung over a shoulder of a very nice lady willing to grant you 3.05 minutes with your item of desire, I say grab it, twirl with it and hope that the camera catches every good angle possible as you flick.
